Dark circles have several causes. Thin skin lets the blood vessels and muscle beneath show through as a bluish shadow. Pigment can darken the skin itself, especially in medium to darker skin types. A hollow tear trough casts a shadow, and puffiness or eye bags can make the area look tired whatever you do.
Genetics plays a large part, and sleep, allergies, screen time and sun exposure add to it. Because the cause is different for different people, the doctor first works out whether the shadow comes from thin skin, pigment, volume loss or puffiness.

Consultation and assessment
The doctor examines the under-eye area in different light, assesses skin thickness, pigment, volume and puffiness, and identifies the main cause of the shadow.

It depends on the cause. Thin, crepey skin and shadows from lost firmness usually improve well; genetic pigment and true eye bags are harder to change.
The doctor decides case by case. Often the skin itself needs strengthening first, and eye boosters or polynucleotides give a more natural result.

Mild swelling or small bruises for a few days are possible after injections around the eyes. Devices usually have little or no downtime.
