A defined face depends on structure: the projection of the cheekbones, the length and shape of the chin, the angle of the jaw. With age, the bone and fat pads that create those lines lose volume and the skin loosens, so the contour gradually blurs. Some people simply have softer features by nature and want more definition.
Contouring treats the face as a whole rather than one zone at a time. Volume placed at the cheekbone can lift the lower face; a balanced chin can change the profile; a lighter submental area sharpens the jaw. The plan is built around your proportions, not a template.

If the structure is missing, the doctor uses fillers: firmer products for the cheekbones, chin and jaw angle, placed for proportion rather than volume. A wide jaw from a strong masseter is slimmed with anti-wrinkle injections instead.
If the contour is blurred by laxity or fat, energy devices and fat-dissolving injections come first. Ultraformer MPT, Volnewmer and Morpheus8 tighten the tissue; Endolift and fat-dissolving injections reduce small, localised fat under the chin and along the jaw.
Most plans combine both — reducing and tightening where the face is heavy, adding where it is flat — over one or two visits.

Often, yes. Anti-wrinkle injections can slim a wide jaw, and ultrasound, RF or fat-dissolving injections can sharpen a contour blurred by laxity or fat.
It depends on the product and the area — firmer fillers in the chin and jaw usually last longer than softer ones. The doctor will give you a realistic timeline.
Fillers can cause mild swelling and occasional bruising for a few days. Most devices used for contouring have little or no downtime.
Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed. Collagen-stimulating fillers cannot, which is one reason the doctor chooses the product carefully.
