Morpheus8 vs Secret RF: which RF microneedling is right for you

Morpheus8 vs Secret RF: which RF microneedling is right for you

Morpheus8 and Secret RF are often presented as rivals. In practice they are two versions of the same idea — needles that carry heat into the skin — and the better choice depends on what your skin needs, not on which name is more familiar. We use both at The Fame, and this is how we decide between them.

What RF microneedling actually does

Ordinary microneedling creates tiny channels in the skin and relies on the body's repair response. RF microneedling adds radiofrequency energy released at the tips of the needles, inside the dermis. The heat contracts existing collagen on the spot and starts a healing process that keeps producing new collagen and elastin for weeks afterwards.

Because the energy is delivered below the surface rather than through it, the epidermis is largely spared. That is why recovery is measured in days rather than weeks, and why both devices can be used on darker skin types when the settings are chosen carefully. Radiofrequency heats tissue without targeting pigment, which lowers the risk of pigment change compared with many lasers.

Morpheus8: depth and structure

Morpheus8 uses gold-coated microneedles that can reach from 0.5 mm, for fine surface texture, down to 4 mm, where the deep dermis meets the fat layer beneath it. At The Fame we work with the Morpheus8 Deep + Burst platform, which can release energy at several depths in a single pass.

That depth is what makes Morpheus8 our first choice when the complaint is structural: skin that has lost density along the jawline, early jowls, a soft area under the chin, or crepey texture on the neck. It is also used on the body — the abdomen, knees and inner arms.

  • Loss of firmness on the lower face and neck
  • Early jowls and a soft submental area
  • Crepey texture and fine lines
  • Atrophic acne scars, especially where laxity is also present
  • Body zones that have lost tone

Secret RF: precision for texture and scars

Secret RF uses insulated needles that work at depths from 0.5 to 3.5 mm and release energy only from the tips. Each insertion point becomes a small, controlled healing zone. The effect is a steady refinement of the surface: pores look smaller, rough texture evens out, and atrophic acne scars gradually fill as new collagen forms beneath them.

We tend to choose Secret RF when the main concern is the quality of the surface rather than the contour — post-acne scarring, enlarged pores on oily skin, uneven texture or stretch marks on the body. It is also a sensible starting point for patients who want a slightly gentler first course.

Scar tissue rebuilds gradually. A planned course of at least three sessions, with a peel or biorevitalization in between, does more than any single aggressive treatment — skipping sessions is what usually disappoints people.

Side by side

  • Needle depth: Morpheus8 up to 4 mm; Secret RF up to 3.5 mm.
  • Main strength: Morpheus8 for density and contour; Secret RF for texture, pores and scars.
  • Session: about 45–60 minutes for Morpheus8 and 40–60 minutes for Secret RF, including numbing.
  • Course: typically three sessions four weeks apart for Morpheus8; three to four for Secret RF. Deep scarring may need more.
  • Recovery: one to three days of redness after Morpheus8; one to two days after Secret RF, with a slightly rough surface for about three days.
  • Result: both build gradually, with the main change appearing over two to three months after the course.

What the session and recovery feel like

For both devices a topical anaesthetic goes on for 30–40 minutes before treatment. Patients usually describe heat and pressure rather than pain, with sharper sensations on the forehead, temples and along the jawline. The treatment itself takes around 20–30 minutes.

Afterwards the skin is red and may show a faint grid pattern. For the first days we ask for a gentle moisturiser and sunscreen only, with make-up usually back on by day two or three. In Dubai, strict sun protection after any energy-based treatment is not optional — it is part of the result.

Who should wait or choose something else

RF microneedling is not suitable for everyone. We postpone or avoid it in these situations:

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Active acne inflammation, infection or herpes in the treated area
  • A tendency to keloid scarring
  • A pacemaker, or metal implants in the treatment area
  • Certain autoimmune conditions or blood clotting disorders, which we discuss individually

If the concern is mainly deep sagging rather than skin quality, a lifting device such as Ultraformer may be more appropriate, sometimes combined with RF microneedling a month apart. If scars are pronounced, a sequence of resurfacing and RF microneedling often works better than either alone.

How we decide at The Fame

The choice is made at a consultation, not from a menu. The doctor examines the skin, asks about previous treatments, medication and sun exposure, photographs the baseline and then sets the device, the depth for each zone and the number of sessions. Some patients benefit from both devices at different stages of a plan.

What we can promise is a careful, conservative approach: settings that respect your skin type, a realistic timeline, and a review after the course to see what has changed. If you are unsure which treatment fits, a consultation is the right first step.

This article is general information, not a medical recommendation. A doctor decides on treatment after an in-person consultation.
